greetings from a rainy san francisco
hello my lovelies! so sorry i've not posted in ages.
i just switched over to the new version of blogger, and it took me a while to remember my password for my gmail account (which i obviously use with regularity). so we'll see if this upgraded blogger will be any better...
let's see... since i posted last, i finished my first two scarves, after teaching myself how to bind off online. of course, neither of them are very wearable since the skeins of yarn from which they were made were shorties from italy. which, in turn, made short scarves. but hey, they're cute! and lots of ladies at work who knit complimented me on my handiwork and precision. i also taught myself how to purl, since that wasn't in Nicole's Tutorial when i was at home... purling is a bit more challenging, but i like the fact that i'm knitting something different and that the stockinette stitch grows so much faster than the straight stitch. it does take more concentration, though, and i'm making lots of mistakes. (a good thing.) one little italian grandma at work was teaching me how to work more efficiently and even Serena, my coworker, was giving me tips. i promise i will post photos of the completed scarfettes.
school is going ok so far... my projects are somewhat exciting, but not as exciting as packaging. (i'm not taking any packaging classes this semester.) current projects in the works: a corporate annual report (i chose Chipotle Mexican Grill as my company) for GD2 and a poetry book for Type 3. i decided to go with William Carlos Williams as my poet and i'm going to be taking my own photography in the style of William Eggleston... it should be a lot of hard work, but hopefully i can create something really beautiful.
just the other day, i received my new juicer in the mail. i ordered it in white, and i LOVE it! my mom has been on a health kick recently (she suffers from a host of different ailments, like eczema, hypertension, GERD, etc.) and gave me some money to buy a new juicer because of the health benefits she has experienced from juicing. well, when K picked me up from the airport in january, we stopped by the Wal-Mart in Oakland to buy one... only they had just one kind and it didn't look like it would hold up. so, after some researching, i decided on the L'Equip. it has a very small footprint and works quite well. both K and i keep dreaming up new things to juice ("juice your vegetables, eat your fruits"). if the rain holds up, i may try to hit up the farmers' market near my neighborhood on saturday.
so far, i've tried PLAs (BEST apple juice EVER, and pink to boot!), satsumas and pink grapefruit (picked from my dad's orchard) and tomatoes (surprisingly good, especially paired with something sweet). if anyone knows of any good juice recipes, please send them my way. i really want to try pears, carrots, pineapple and melons and maybe even kiwis, grapes and cherries, but some of those i'd probably want to eat for the fiber. K wants to try Asian pear. any suggestions?
today after work, i have about a mountain of laundry to do and then if i have time some homework. for dinner, K and i are meeting up with Heather and her friends at Ana Mandara as they are in town on vacation in Napa... it should be a good time.
hope everyone has a great weekend!

Ok, so now I know who to send my excess yarn to! I have an abundance from my early knitting days and compulsive shopping habits. Do you like mohair?
Matt won't wear a scarf and my Texas family doesn't need any. Seriously, can I ship it to you?
hmmm... mohair can be a little tricky for me to wear (it can be a little itchy), but that doesn't mean i can't make something out of it for someone else. :)
i'm currently making a scarf for K, and the next skein is for me.
if you really want to send me your yarn, i'll be glad to take it off your hands... yarn's expensive, and i'm pretty much addicted.
Ok, I'll be boxing it up for you soon! :-)
I'm so glad that you are knitting now... That is awesome. I'll have to show you my latest projects when I have some time. Good luck with classes.
Much love!
yay! yarn and knitting! K took me to Jo-Ann's this weekend and i bought bamboo needles and more yarn.
this morning, i got more tips from the italian grandma... i'm glad i have lots of tutors here at the gym who can critique my work and help me become a better, faster knitter.
hope you are both doing well!
