it's been said that life is what happens when you're making other plans. it couldn't be a better truism for my life right now: having an illness has altered my life in ways i never would have imagined. right now, i'm just taking things literally a day at a time, because i've found that even the best laid plans go awry.

i break for spring

hello folks! though i'm at work, i am officially on spring break.

this weekend, K and i took a little trip to Carmel By-The-Sea, or more commonly known as Carmel. it was our first trip together ever and not surprisingly, it was a nice little getaway.

we left on saturday and got into Carmel at around 6:30 pm. we checked into our little hotel and then proceeded to find a place to eat. i'd taken some brochures from the lobby and we decided to eat at a nearby shopping village. we drove the mile or so to the place and it was SO dead! it's definitely the off-season, so that, coupled with the fact that Carmel is SO tiny... meant very few places to eat. we did find a pretty good seafood place that seemed to be popular. we both got the fish and chips, and took their famous coconut and caramel cream pie to go.

sunday, we slept in and ate our pie for breakfast while watching the food network. admittedly, we should have gotten up earlier to take in more sights, but we made a lazy day of it. plus, the weather was cold and grey. we wanted to see the Monterey Bay Aquarium, but apparently, that's a bit of an all-day affair, so we stayed local, going into the little shops on the main part of downtown. then we headed to Carmel Beach where i walked barefoot on the beautiful (but cold) sand. after our little stroll, we went back to the hotel where we got ready for our one nice dinner in town, at the Village Corner. we both had the filet mignon, which was served with a mushroom and spinach crepe. divine!

monday morning we got up a little early to check out, have breakfast and hit some stores before heading back to the city. i went into Coach (which turned out to be a factory outlet--yay!) and got a little black purse i can tuck under my arm, and K got me a brown and pink hoodie that says "Carmel." we also went into Chatel, a high-end watch store, so K could drool over some of these. of course the weather was absolutely gorgeous, but we had to get back.

after we returned the rental car, we headed downtown for a late lunch at 'wichcraft and to catch the new movie, 300, which, though very gory and graphic, turned out to be better than i thought.

today, i was back at work at 6 am. arrrrrrrrrgh.

anyway... hope everyone has a great week! my warmest BIRTHDAY wishes to Philippa! xoxo
